Recommendations for preventing and reducing the proliferation of Legionella bacteria in domestic hot water installations
All draw-off points should be operated and flushed 1-2 times weekly at maximum temperature. Following holiday periods where hot water consumption has been absent, all draw-off points should be thoroughly flushed upon return prior to use.
Generate an artificial consumption with a small, continuous flow using ONLY hot water. Full system pressure is not required.
Place the hand shower on the floor during flushing to minimize aerosol generation.
Vacate the room during flushing and ensure adequate room ventilation and air exchange.
Furthermore, remember to:
Exercise the mixing valve to prevent it from seizing at the preferred bathing temperature. It is essential to rotate the mixing valve to its extreme positions for both cold and hot water.
Clean the aerator for debris regularly and as required
Replace the shower hose every 2 years
