CASE: Completely clean water with significant savings

In the food industry there are high demands on the process water quality. In a larger slaughterhouse in Jutland, Guldager installed a number of ”UniSoft® Hydrus” softener installations to ensure clean process water without calcium.

The soft water is essential for optimal cleaning in the slaughtering process with minimum consumption. At the same time there is no deposition of calcium on tiles and equipment, which makes the cleaning easier.

The water consumption for rinsing at the slaughterhouse was high, and it was therefore crucial that the installation could reduce the consumption of salt and water for regeneration compared to traditional softening installations.

FAQ – to the most common questions

Is corrosion protection needed today?

Yes, although most installations today are made of corrosion-resistant materials, it is still necessary to protect steel containers, sand filters, etc. In addition, tens of thousands of installations are made of galvanized steel with many years on the bag, which can last for as many years as possible with active corrosion protection.

When the hot water boiler is removed, we do not need corrosion protection?

Well, keep in mind that the piping system still needs to be protected against corrosion (Unicat).

How can softening improve the operation costs?

By avoiding lime deposits on heaters and in pumps and valves, the cost of maintenance is reduced.

Is it necessary to disinfect the boiler every year?

Yes, an annual cleaning of the boiler combined with disinfectant with chlorine dioxide is recommended as the best way to prevent Legionella.

Does corrosion protection not remove lime?

No, it only prevents corrosion, but the lime can be removed with a softening installation.
